Dynamic Ratings
Dynamic Rating Monitoring Control Unit T3

Dynamic Ratings grew out of Wilson Transformer Co (WTC)'s development of a PLC-based transformer management system in the early 1990's. WTC realized the limitations of PLCs for this application and decided to develop more robust hardware especially for use in power stations and electricity supply sub-stations.

With the benefit of WTC's 75 years of transformer manufacturing, design and modeling, we have developed an industry leading transformer monitoring, control and communication system. We are confident that you will find our features, benefits and the value of our product to be unmatched

Dynamic Ratings presently has two office locations. The Dynamic Ratings Pty Ltd office is located in Glen Waverley, VIC Australia and serves all end customers outside of the Americas. Dynamic Ratings Inc office in Pewaukee serves all end customers within America. There are also many international country based distributors of our products

Predictive Loading Capacity

Dynamic rating enables controlled emergency loading beyond nameplate rating and beyond what is possible with conventional static thermal rating based on loading guides, without undue risk. The dynamic rating of a transformer is the maximum load possible without exceeding predefined thermal and current rating limits, based on real time measured ambient and transformer temperatures, cooling system status and load.

In addition to real-time measurements and calculations for dynamic rating, the enhanced DRMCC thermal model is more accurate hence, a transformer may typically be loaded 10 - 20% higher and with greater confidence with the DRMCC dynamic rating than with static thermal rating. Instead of "flying blind" when operating close to the limits, dynamic rating provides timely and accurate information as to the real thermal limit at any moment in real time.

Data Consolidation

Advanced communication connections including:
  • A single fibre optic, copper or wireless link connection provides communication of all information                    to the control room.
  • RS-485 and RS-232 ports communicate to other IEDs.
  • Built-in web server provides interactive web link access to all available data.

Actionable Information

Provides crucial answers to Load Dispatch Operators:
  • How long can this transformer safely maintain this load?
  • How much load could this transformer safely carry today?

Improve System Reliability

Reduce the probability of catastrophic failure on transformers known to be problematic or with a higher than average risk of failure. Extend the life of transformers that have a potential for heavy loading or may be near/past the end of rated life. Reduce the risk of catastrophic failure on high cost transformer assets.

Communication

One communication connection provides remote monitoring as well as status of temperatures, cooling system, OLTC, DGA, other diagnostic signals and also provides remote control over the OLTC and cooling.
