Diagnostic Services
Wilson Transformer Company formed a strategic partnership with US based company TJ|H2b Analytical Services for the provision
of diagnostic services for transformers, circuit breakers and on-load tap changers.
The adoption of condition based maintenance by US utilities as determined by the TJ|H2b diagnostic methods has led to reductions
in maintenance costs by up to 40% with an increase in equipment reliability.
Typical tests that form the basis of the diagnostics are:
- Dissolved gas analysis
- Acidity
- Dielectric strength
- Furan analysis (for transformers only)
- Water content
- Colour
- Interfacial tension
- Particle profile
The results of these tests are entered into a proprietary software program that uses the latest codes and ratios to give a diagnosis
of the equipment condition. From this, condition based maintenance can be prioritized and programmed, rather than time or reactive
based maintenance. Any available historical data will assist in determining condition.
The diagnostic programs are known respectively as:
BOA
- Breaker Oil Analysis
TASA
- Tap Changer Activity Signature Analysis
TCA
- Transformer Condition Assessment
Diagnostic services are also available for SF6 filled equipment.
Infrared Thermographic Survey
Infrared thermographic surveys will assist in identifying faults that are resulting in elevated temperatures. It is important that
the image is of the whole device. Faults identified by IR include loose connections, hot joints, and tank heating due to leakage flux,
overheating due to shorts or circulating currents, and winding and bushing faults.
