Upgrades
In almost all cases, upgrades can be fully achieved in the field without the need to return a transformer to a factory or
workshop.
Bushings, cable boxes and tap selection equipment can also be upgraded to accommodate an increase in rating.
Simple upgrades can meet immediate need, defer major capital expenditure as well as give you time to assess your total needs.
The Wilson Engineering team can assess your transformer and determine the best course of action to achieve the most cost
effective upgrade. Increases in nameplate rating of 20% to 25% are quite common with just the addition of fans.
Dynamic rating can also be predicted and overload conditions monitored using the Wilson Dynamic Rating Monitoring Control
and Communication System (DRMCC).
Transformer rating can be increased by
- Additional or modified radiators
- Fans
- Unit Coolers
- Heat Exchangers
- Oil Pumps
- Replacement of windings
