Wilson Transformer Company has formed a strategic partnership with US based company TJ/H2b for the provision of diagnostic services for transformers, circuit breakers and on-load tap changers. Their diagnostic methods have been developed in partnership with major US utilities and extensively field trialled before general release.

The adoption of condition based maintenance by US utilities as determined by the TJ/H2b diagnostic methods has led to reductions in maintenance costs by up to 40 % with an increase in equipment reliability.

Typical tests that form the basis of the diagnostics are:

  • dissolved gas analysis
  • acidity
  • dielectric strength
  • furan analysis (for transformers only)
  • water content
  • colour
  • interfacial tension
  • particle profile
    •

 

Note that all tests in Australia are undertaken at NATA accredited laboratory

The results of these tests are entered into a proprietary software programme that uses the latest codes and ratios to give a diagnosis of the equipment condition. From this, condition based maintenance can be prioritised and programmed, rather than time or reactive based maintenance. Any available historical data will assist in determining condition.

The information is stored on a database and kept for future records. You will have access to your information at any time.

TJ/H2b employee Mr George Cleveland has been seconded to Wilson as Diagnostic Services Co-ordinator, and is providing the all-important customer interface for the provision of these services. We will be working with local NATA accredited laboratories to provide diagnostic services based on the best analytical methodology, and using internet services to ensure our customers have full access to their information through the world wide web.

The diagnostic programmes are known respectively as:

BOA -Breaker Oil Analysis,

TASA -Tap Changer Activity Signature Analysis, and

TCA -Transformer Condition Assessment

Diagnostic services are also available for SF6 filled equipment.
