Distribution

Wilson Transformer Company provides transformer solutions for the distribution networks in Australia, New Zealand and around the world.

Our design and manufacturing operations are aligned to the stringent requirements of the utility networks, ensuring the products are supplied to meet the reliability requirements of power supply.

Case 1 – Kurnell Substation, Australia

Client
Ausgrid

Product
2 x 37.5MVA 132/11kV power transformers

Project description
Ausgrid’s new substation replaced the existing Kurnell zone substation which was built in 1961. The substation increases capacity to the Cronulla and Woolooware suburbs. Two 37.5MVA 132/11kV power transformers were supplied by Wilson Transformer Company for this project. The 54 tonne transformers were transported by road from the Glen Waverley facility in Victoria to Kurnell and then assembled by the Wilson Transformer Company installation team. The transportation route presented some challenges, particularly when negotiating the narrow streets and the confined space at site for the delivery of the units.

Case 2 – Bankside Substation, United Kingdom

Client
UK Power Networks

Product
2 x 90MVA 132/20-20kV 4 x 66.6MVA 132/11-11kV

Project description
Although the Bankside Power Station ceased operation several decades ago, the substation continued to operate and remains an important part of London's electricity network. The £60 million refurbishment of the substation included many substation upgrades, 6 power transformers from Wilson Transformer Company in Australia and an engineered heat reclamation system that used the losses of the transformers to supplement the heating and hot water needs of the adjacent Tate Modern.

It was the first time UK Power Networks (formerly EDF Energy) provided this service for a customer. The innovative project, delivered by UK Power Networks in partnership with Tate Modern, Arup and Wilson Transformer Company, won the 'Infrastructure' award at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors London regional award ceremony. The project also won a 'Re-engineering London' award at the Institution of Civil Engineers London Awards.

Case 3 – Strategic Partnership / Period Contracts

The capacity of Energex has doubled since 2005 as the result of significant population growth. Wilson Transformer Company have been supplying all the power transformers, pole mount transformers, and packaged substations as part of a strategic partnership and period contract since the late 1990’s and mid/late 2000’s.

Case 4 – Strategic Partnership / Period Contracts
